Frequently Asked Questions about Heating & Air Conditioning
Part of providing service excellence to our customers is to help them understand more about their heating and air conditioning equipment. If the following heating and air conditioning FAQ doesn't cover your question or you are looking for an HVAC contractor in Ipswich, please feel free to contact us.
How often should I get maintenance for my HVAC equipment?
Regular maintenance ensures your heating and air conditioning system is safe and efficient. To enjoy maximum energy efficiency all season, get a professional tune up just before the start of the heating and cooling season. We also recommend an end of season maintenance service for oil and gas fueled furnaces because testing for gas and carbon monoxide leaks is important.
How long should my furnace last?
This depends on what type of heating equipment you have. An electric furnace or heat pump can last about 15 to 20 years depending on what type of maintenance it received. Oil or water baseboard heaters have been known to last more than 45 years. Air conditioners last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Gas or electric water heaters average at around 10.
What can you do to help me save on my energy bills?
There are a number of ways we can help you retrofit, upgrade, or replace an inefficient HVAC system. It will depend on your equipment and the layout of the system in your home. An inspection would be in order. If you do need an additional part or replacement, we work with several manufacturers of Energy Star® heating and cooling equipment.
Why is there one room in my house that won't get warm?
It can be really frustrating to have a room that won't warm up no matter how much you run the heating equipment. This type of problem needs to be professionally diagnosed. We would look at possibilities like a leaking air duct in a central heating system, blockages, or a problem with an oil or water baseboard heater.
